  1. Brian, Have you tried the VEMF missions? They're the missions that occupy the towns and once completed the loot is really good. Since they are in town you might have a better chance of avoiding AI while you load and make your escape. Also what most of the guys do that are long time players is vehicle hunt. If they manage to find a BTR or something with AI they disable it, the AI jumps out and they kill them and then take the vehicle and sell it. You might try either of these and see if it helps? Jason
  2. Because we run a PvE server the destructive potential of artillery is too great. We have had problems in the past with players abusing them so it was decided to not put them in at all. Adding the other drones may be a possibility. I'll talk it over with the other admins and see what they think. I don't want missions to become trivial when you can just send a drone out to complete them. No risk vs reward.
  3. Wareagle252. I did find a way to bring the money/rep over from the DB so I am planning on doing that. I want to make it as easy on the players as I can. Also Corylus the DP buildables are now indestructible but only after a server restart when they save to the database. Prior to that if they are placed during the 4 hours they can still be destroyed until they save. I lowered the prices on them as well in the trader to make them a more attractive alternative.
  4. Any of the add ons we put on would not affect the FPS. In fact they should improve the FPS. Adding in new construction items with less object count means less objects loading on the server which means lowered FPS. Moving AI spawning and calculations over to the headless client to take the load off the server means better frames and server performance. Across the board we have noticed better FPS with most if not all players. Sometimes with a 10-15 FPS increase. We still aren't perfect, we also struggle with performance simply because we are running on a virtual machine instead of a true dedicated box, however we don't have the funds to make the move to a dedicated box yet. That said because we have made progress with FPS maybe it's time you take a look at your end.
  5. Brad, Try logging in again. Occasionally a character is bugged and logs in with 0 health resulting in death. I've added health to you in the database so you should be ok now. jaspoe30
  6. We are still working on it. Looking into some other server type options as well but as of right now it's too early to spill the beans.
  7. I understand Alan. We all get to a point where we're burned out and it's only understandable to think introducing new things will freshen up the server, however, it unfortunately only works for a short time and then boredom will again set in. Sometimes it's just time to take a break and play some other games or do some other type of activities. I enjoy modding the server and adding new things for the players to enjoy. It's fun for me to see players enjoying themselves on a server I helped put together.
  8. Thanks Forty! We all really appreciate anything that can help keep the server running. Every little bit helps =)
  9. While we appreciate the suggestions the snarky comments are not needed. Like I said before there are only 2 of us working on the server. Anything that does change will be for the betterment of the community and not to please one or two players. We do look at all the suggestions and we do discuss them however there is a limit to what we can implement and what we can't. Changing the map or changing the way the entire server runs is not something to take lightly and requires a TON of work, not to mention that we need to take into consideration the other players and how they would react to such a change. That said we know there are issues with the server such as uniforms disappearing, vehicles going missing and things like that that have priority over completely redoing the server. We will fix those things but right now our hands are tied by BI. We can't fix what they broke.
  10. If I had my way those bases would be gone as well. When I take on a mission I want to be challenged. To me that's fun (maybe it's not fun for other people to do it this way). Where is the fun when you have towers or a tank and kill everything in a matter of seconds with little risk for the reward? At this point it just becomes more of a grind and your doing it only for the loot and respect....at some point I would ask myself "Wait....this was supposed to be fun right?" My main issue with tanks and the like is if they are used to clear a mission from 1000m out. If we could figure out a way to bring some balance back then I would be ok with it. Introducing anti tank measures is a good start.
  11. We are looking into it. You have to realize there are only 2 of us that work on the server and we both have jobs as well. Patience is key here =P
  12. I would prefer that vehicles that are capable of completing a mission in seconds not be used. I have 2 reasons for this: 1st reason is that missions aren't designed for this type of attack and have no real defense against it. You're basically hitting the easy mode button without any real effort or risk. The 2nd reason is that it has and will cause hard feelings for other players. If other players don't have the ability, the vehicle or want to finish a mission without using vehicles and have to compete with players using God's Wrath of vehicles then it's an unfair advantage that I would prefer to avoid. I do understand your point about the worth of armored vehicles if you can't use them on missions so maybe we can look into putting a couple of really tough missions out that only contain armored vehicles with some kind of defense to assist them that you can use your vehicles on. Hope this all makes sense.
  13. I really appreciate all your suggestions. It's great to get valuable feedback like this on the server. I'll try to address all your points one by one. Meta-what? - Personally I agree with this. My first rule regarding this is admin utilities should normally be used if a player is glitched or if they lost something due to a server issue or glitch. That said there are times when an admin will do something nice as a show of appreciation to the players on the server. This is mostly left up to the discretion of the admin but if it does gets out of hand then go back to my first rule. Don’t attack Gorgons with a pistol - Well not sure this needs addressing. People need to use common sense when tackling a mission. If it seems to hard then get some help. Pimp my Ride! - I'm not sure that reducing the number of vehicles will significantly affect server lag. We have tried to limit vehicles before and it doesn't really work. Players always find ways around it. From what I have seen it more than likely the huge player built bases contributing to the lag rather than the vehicles. Got Tanks? - This is a tricky one as tanks and other tracked vehicles are viewed as end game vehicles and should only be able to be acquired by the most faithful of players. That said I do agree that they shouldn't be used on missions. I'll talk it over with the other admins and see what the best way would be to combat this. If we institute a no tank rule at missions, which we can do, I'm not sure if we have the man power to enforce it. A lot of missions have mines in the mission area to combat the tanks but that works if they get within the mission area and would be detrimental to players if you were to put mines 1000m out. Landlords a mean bastard - this has been changed to 14 days effectively the 4pm CST restart on 12/28/15 Condominiums and retirement homes - This is a good idea and I would encourage people that want to do this to try it. It won't work for those people that want there own base but for the ones that don't mind sharing it would be good. The single largest drain on the server right now are player bases. Vehicles left unlocked - if you find a vehicle that has a code lock in the middle of nowhere have an admin look it up in the database. They can find out who left it and how long it has been there. Chances are if it was left in the boonies it was because the player died and they needed to get back to there body/vehicle. If it's been there a long time and/or the player doesn't want it anymore then it's free game as far as I'm concerned. Building restrictions - No building in military or a city. Also do not want people to build or otherwise block off high loot spawn areas. I don't have problems players building on the broken buildings but would prefer they didn't build on to complete buildings. There is plenty of map to build on out there so it shouldn't be an issue of not being able to find a place to build on. Who wants to be a BILLIONARE??? - Yeah loot is extremely easy to come by and no one should have any issues finding it. Thanks again for the feedback!
  14. There are no current plans to change the map. When BI completes work on the new map, the tropical map, then we are planning to switch to that one.
  15. To echo Sarge CJ, your constructive feedback is very necessary. Most of the needed changes we've implemented over the last few days have been because of you and the others in this thread. Don't feel like you're being a pest, we need more people like you guys giving us feedback. Keep it up! Oh and I'm not changing the starting pistol!!! =P Well maybe I will...who knows lol
  16. Not sure that this would work on Epoch. It's more of a mission addon...increases realism and such.
  17. You do have some good points Bishop and I do agree that we need to take some steps towards change on our end. As far as the Hospital server goes, I play the game to have fun and I refuse to feel guilty for having fun on someone else's server. Currently I'm not going to play on Hospital but that's another issue. If there is a server that has good performance, good game play and a high population then it's only natural that people gravitate towards that server. Playing on a server with a population of 0 isn't fun. We can work to get the population up but it's up to the player community to make that happen. We as admins will work our butts off to make sure we do our part....but we can only do so much. Also we have a great Teamspeak community for those that aren't aware that is available regardless of what server or game your playing. As long as we keep active on that then OGG/BHOP will never die. The bottom line with the server is that we aren't going to please every one, that's not to say we can't try however. We can fix the little things but there will always be things people don't like or think they can do better. We can change the server to the flavor of the week but that still doesn't address the underlying issue of needing a player base to keep the server running. Just because we change these things doesn't mean we get players back. Sure we might, but we also stand the chance of being stuck in the same situation we have right now. Honestly it's up to the community to bring the server back, we as admins can make the server attractive but the rest is up to you the players. If you guys want OGG to stay then it's time to man up and help out. Get the word out that OGG is a great place to play. Talk to your friends that play games, get them on the server. Post on forums, post on twitter, facebook....whatever you have to do. How many people here have even been to our Facebook page? Inaction is the ONLY thing that will cause the death of OGG.
  18. OGG did have a super hero trader prior to Vilayer when we were on DayzST. Once it was moved to Vilayer the super hero trader was not put back in for some reason. Not sure why. Once I started doing the scripting and such I looked at putting it back in but it was a little over my head at the time. With Nimda I'm sure the 2 of us could get one in and working. We would need to look at each current trader and what they offer and then from there figure out what would need to go on the super hero trader to make it worth while to the player base, however, I'm not sure if that alone will bring the population back. We need to take a serious look at why we don't have a player base (what are other players playing, what server types are populated and so forth, where did our current players go) if we want OGG to continue. I don't think anyone expects Nimda and Bunny to carry the weight of 2 servers. Once OGG is out of donations there is a very real possibility that we will need to close it down. A little background history to catch everyone up to speed. Up until we moved to the dedicated server and shortly before the player base had started to dwindle. This was around the time that gamespy stopped hosting the dayz server browser and people were having a hard time getting dayz commander and it's successor dayz launcher to work and get connected to OGG. In addition to these issues we had switched our hosting to Vilayer who was also having issues almost every other day making it extremely frustrating for anyone that was trying to build things or keep weapons/vehicles (items were disappearing, buildings vanishing and so forth). Making matters worse we as admins were not able to fix these issues because in short.....Vilayer's support system blows.... This is what prompted the move to a dedicated server to try and hold on to what player base we had left....unfortunately the damage had already been done and players were faced with once again having to start from scratch....not a prospect most members wanted. It all led up to where we are now. The challenge is how to get back to where we were. We have amazing performance, awesome scripts and for the most part dedicated admins (speaking for myself I am burned out and dealing with all the server issues and players leaving has left me somewhat disheartened. Because of that I apologize I haven't been as active as I used to be).
