[ARK PVE Wipe?? Base deleted?]

I had a small base and a few dinos on an island this past Friday morning.  I went out of town and logged on Sunday to find my base gone.  I posed in chat if the server had been wiped and players said yes but there was a restore of data?  Apparently some stuff was wiped and some not?  Guess I am a bit confused as to what happened.  As I see it, if there was a wipe then it all should have been wiped.  If the data was to be restored except abandoned stuff, that is fine but I don't see a 2 day absence as abandoning my base.  A buddy I play with had the same issue happen to him also.  Guess I am a bit confused as to what happened and what is this communities policy on server wipes and data restoration.  I don't see anything posted that addresses this.  Thanks for your time.
