  1. Honor. Duty.

Words that have sent many good men to early graves due to the whims of incompetent, honor born Nobles and Lords.

Son of a Fletcher, Rhoderick could say he had his own fortunate start to life. Raised into a family trade that served a worthy purpose and required a useful skill set had been a blessing. Rhoderick had a natural talent for Bowcraft to which his Farther passed on his knowledge and skills.

Roderick’s father also taught him well about Honor and Duty and the way of the world, for all it’s benefits and curses.

The thought brought him back to reality and the horrible aftermath of the battlefield he found himself in. Blood, who’s or what, God’s only know. It was a priestess’ staff prodding his ribs that brought him back. Rhoderick was sure he saw a glimmer of hope in her face that another soul had been retained in this world, unworthy as he was.

Rhoderick was part of a mercenary band called The Wyverns, despised men among the honorable and noble. Despite this, they where well sought after by those same Lords who could barely admit the need to hire such as those without Honor. Rhoderick had traveled with various mercenary companies through his time, and found this band of cut-throats reliable and good company.

Fortunately for Rhoderick, The Wyverns leader had paid an upfront retainer to ensure the mercenaries would receive medical aid. So it was that Rhoderick was nursed back to health and strength. However Rhoderick found himself alone, The Wyverns either dead or scattered. He prayed that they’d somehow made it out. For all the Honor & Duty the Lords and Nobles spouted, it was the mercanaries, those paid in gold and silver, that were in the thick of the fighting and given the deadly of tasks on the field.

Rhoderick found himself tired and somewhat despaired, having plenty of time to contemplate his future he decided to retire from the Mercenary life, he’d been able to squirrel away enough gold and loot, despite the debaucherous lifestyle on one whose time is short and death certain.

A simpler life, using his skills in Bowcraft and Fletching, Rhoderick could sell his services, training, crafting, hunting…humans and animals. There would always be a need and would be a hell of a lot better for his ongoing health. Maybe he had been saved on the battlefield for a reason. Could one such as he be redeemed.

Rhoderick decided to leave the glory of the battlefield for others and start a new life and founded Maelstrom Keep in the province of Aventine Hill.
