  1. Hey Dane,

    thanks for the quick reply.
Are you sure about the can opener? O.oO.oO.o
I died multiple times but I still don't have it on me.
And I could not open cans, so I am sure I don't have it in my pockets without knowing...
Will check and let you know.

As for the rest... thanks for the clarification.

  2. Hello OGG,

not sure if you remember me but I've been playing on the A2 server for quite some time. Had a fantastic experience, found nice ppl to play with...
Too bad the server is gone... but I guess no one was playing there anymore (including me).
I started to play on the A3 Altis pve server a few days ago... and I already have some suggestions.
I don't want to bother you. I know managing a server is not easy, but I guess some feedback can be useful.

For my style of playing I like exploring and roaming around.
I don't always feel to go for a mission.
Especially if I just started on a server and I don't have any decent weapon with a decent scope hehe ;)

Anyway... from the first few hours of playing I have notice a some things:

    1. No roaming AI?
I have found none or very very few AIs around.
I loved the A2 server where you could never relax and always have to watch out for incominc AI.
Yeah sometimes they just popped out of nowhere and killed me without any way to defend. But I guess it's realistic in such situations and the ability to get back to my corpse fast was enough to eliminate the frustration. But here on the A3 server... it's a bit boring.
To the point that after exploring with caution for a long time... you relax, and that's the point you get killed.
You may say it's my fault I can't keep the concentration, but I really wish I found more AI's roaming and exploring.
Ambush them and get their loot (or fail pathetically and get owned :D ).

    2. Can opener
LOL I know it's stupid but I've been playing hours and I couldn't find a damn can opener.
After a long walk I got to the trader north of Kavala and... there is no shop that sells it! (or I didn't find it)
      AAARRGGG!!! :D
I know this a post-apocalyptic game where nothing should be too easy to find but...
A can opener? Or anything similar to open a can? Really?
Objectively, it should be in the first house I enter, but I understand it would be too easy.
But HOURS of search looks absurd.
I know that it's probably sold at another trader and soon I'll have te money to go there and buy whatever I want, but looking for stuff in the environment is so much more fun (if it's possible to find it lol).

    3. Vehicles
No vehicles around. Many hours walking around. Not even a bike. And I can't even buy it at trader... :(
While on the other server, the Malden one, I've seen tons of quadbikes everywhere.

There are probably good reason why the things are set this way (I noticed stable and very good FPS which would probably get worse with more AIs and more vehicles around).
But I wanted to throw my 2 cents here ;)

Thanks for reading and sorry if it was a long post!

    See you all online...

And the ai i seem to come across when ever i have played on a server with night seem to see quite well even at long range lol or it could be the hand of god pointing me out lol.

    Yeah that's my experience too.
Usually if I happened to meet AI at night they could see me when I couldn't see them.
Even if they had no NVG. But we can test that and see.
I guess that we can try and then decide. It's not a permanent change, is it? ;)

Doesn't really matter considering everybody is always voting day 90% of the time now.  It will never be night longer than 10 minutes again because of this voting system.  I think people talking about an entire 4 hour period of night is "too limiting" is just a cop out excuse, but that is just my opinion.  They might as well just make it a day server now.

You see... that' why I voted NO.
As for the duration I still think 6 hours of night are too hardcore.
I wouldn't enjoy it. I think it would become frustrating.

Hi Mr.G, server 1 exile has had it up for about 10 days ,not seen over use my side, most are happy to take the night cycle.Depend´s mostly on how many new players are on Server, and how they gear -up.

Happy to hear things are working there.
I was just talking out of experience and what I would probably do too if I needed to do something that required more light.
As I said I like night, but it's easy to fall into tentations ;)

A couple of us were talking about an idea where the server runs on a 12 hour or 24 hour day~night cycle.  A 12 hour cycle would make two resets day time and one of the resets night and if it were a 24 hour cycle you would just double it to 4 and 2.  This way it would either be day for the entire reset or night.

IMHO an entire reset of night would be too much. I'd like to have an hour or so of night per reset. Maybe twice.
An entire reset at night is too limiting for people that don't have too many hours to spend playing.
It would also mean that at a certain time of the day it would be always either day or night on the server.
And if someone (like me) could play only at those times of the day then they would get always day or always night on the server.

  6. I voted NO but I would like a short period of night (or maybe 2) during each server cycle (I mean between a restart and the next one).
Night is immersive and adds difficulty and variety to gameplay.
I voted NO because if you give players the option to change night to day they will probably do it almost every time it gets dark (I would probably do that too ^_^).

  7. Sorry to bother with such a question, but I've searched other news and I couldn't find any.
Is there any ETA on arma 2 pve server coming back up?
I wouldn't ask, I know that if it's down you know that and are already working on it.
I read about the maintenance but if I calculated the time conversion right it should be done by now, so I guess there are some troubles...
I'm sure it's for our best that the server gets upgraded/updated, so again, sorry to ask, but it's my day off so I just want to know if there is the possibility I'll be able to play shortly or I better go do something else :D

    the GPS Noob

What do you mean you can report local AI on them?? O.o

  9. P.S.: I wrote I didn't lose anything yet but in fact I lost the Plot Pole. And since I started playing not long a go a Plot Pole is still a bit expensive.
If I could get one as a refund it would be much appreciated :)

  10. OK... thanks for the reply Troublesim.
If I lose something I'll let you know. For now, it's all still there.

As for the safes... I think it should be possible to place them down without a plot pole and remain persistent even outside plot pole area IF people access it.
If not safes should unlock after a period of time they get abandoned.
On another server I played on there was a nice addon that reset the safes code to 0000 after a period of time if they were abandoned for I think a month or something and sent a message to all players online saying that a safe (or more) were being reset to 0000 and showed their position on the map so that we could go and check/take the content. It was a nice "treasure hunt" feature and loot stocked by others that were not playing anymore could be retrieved by active players and not get lost.
Also I guess it helped keep the database clean.
If no one was online at the time the message was sent and the position shown, no one would know about it. But it was still nice to know there were unlocked safes around and I used to roam around and look for abandoned bases and safes. It's a nice exploration feature 'cause it incentivate people to explore, know where other players bases were and check them if they knew the owners were not showing online for a while.
It was a pvp server, so it all made more sense since when the message was sent we knew people were going to go check and that could be a nice occasion for an ambush.
But still, on a pve server could be nice for exploration (which I like a lot). Finding a big base full of unlocked safes was really a thrill and a lot of fun.
Once I found a huge abandoned base with 10 or more safes that were reset to 0000, Some of them full of BFs of gold... others were full of great weapons :D
No need to say I got rich heheh ;)
The only problem I know about this addon is that opening and closing the safe wasn't enough. You had to also change the database of the safe. Meaning you had to take something out or place something different in it so that the database was changed and that refreshed the timer.

I think there is the same addon for vehicles that after a while get unlocked and get available to other players that can take and sell or use them.
Another way to keep database clean and also map clean. I personally dislike seeing so many vehicle abandoned around the map, just in the middle of fields or along roads.
If it was a pvp server they would just get blown up by other players, or stolen using a hotwire kit but since it's pve they just sit there.

I have another suggestion for an addon but I will post in the right section. I posted this here 'cause it was on topic of what you wrote.

Thanks again for your reply and help.
Keep on the great work as... as I said... this is the best pve server around! :D

  11. Hello, sorry to bother but I have a problem with base maintenance.
Yesterday my base was fine but I just logged today and noticed that the locked door I placed was gone. I checked the plot pole and it's disappeared too.
I don't know if it's a maintenance problem because I placed the plot pole less (or not much more) than a week ago. I tried to understand how often I had to maintain by checking the plot pole management but it said I had no objects to maintain and the cost was zero. I noticed the "force maintain" option but I didn't try it 'cause I didn't know what it would do. And anyway, since it said no object to maintain I guess it didn't detect my locked door and wooden crates I placed. Could it be a database error or something?
It's been a long time since I last played Dayz Epoch but if I remember right when I used to play if a player didn't maintain the plot pole didn't disappear. Only the base objects would.
The only thing I can think of is that last time I was on a fuel truck I placed close to my base wall exploded. Could it have destroyed the plot pole and so after restart the door disappeared too?
But if I remember correctly destroying a plot pole required a much stronger explosion... or not?
I've also been told on TS that there are others that are complaining for their base having similar problems... plot pole not working correctly... objects disappearing (it was [OGG] CPL.Blackbill.S who told me that)
I hope this can be solved soon since I am worried the safes and the wooden crates I placed will disappear and lose my stuff :(
Safes should stay there anyway right? They usually don't need a plot pole to stay persistent... I'll put all my stuff in them and hope for the best.

Anyway, thanks for the attention and please let me know.

    Cheers

    G.
